Akkren's Naginata by Amakudari Akkren's Naginata by Amakudari
this is an original character that i whisped out of thin air in '01...and whose idea i ran with. =] she's a Throne--one of the nine orders of angelic beings in catholic...er, "mythology", i guess you could call it. her name is Akkren, the weapon is Japanese (the naginata) and she is owned by me. i might even try illustrating manga with she and the whole cast of Amakudari (the story's tentative title) someday. yay. *much fanfare*
--sketched--inked with microns--scanned--touched up in PS--colored with digital watercolor and such in corel painter 8--
finished last july or august. not sure ^__^'

I concur, that would make excellent stationary. You really need to make prints of this.

She's very pretty. You need to do a forward facing version or something. That would be awesome. I love her hair, and the beautiful border.

Now, you're going to have to ignore this next section of my comment, as it's annoyingly specific: that looks more like a nagamaki than a naginata. Naginatas are about as long, but with a shorter blade. A nagamaki has the longer blade with a similar length hilt (like a katana with an extra long hilt).

HOWEVER, it still looks awesome, and I officially want a real weapon based on that one. Nice and sharp. So I can kill snowmen (sorry, inside joke).

Sorry for the long comment. :) Awesome job, really!

this looks as if it would make an excellent design for a pad of stationary or notebook paper. AND I WOULD BUY LOTS OF IT. wonderful job capturing the light and its brightness!

wow thanks! i worked on this for a looooong time. mostly i think because it was the first piece i'd done completely on Painter 8 with a wacom tablet. it was pretty sweet, the experimentation process... i wanted to use a Mucha-ish style for the border, so i put a lot of effort into it. i'm really glad that you like it. =]
